Changing Your Behavior

Is it time to change your ways? Making big changes can be overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. Breaking down your goals into smaller steps may make them easier to achieve.

3 simple steps to help bring about change

Some changes might take a bit of effort. Others might be easier to make. Either way, keep at it. And remember, the choices you make really do matter.

1. Think about your goals

What do you want to achieve? Maybe you want to lose weight. Or exercise more. Whatever it is, the only thing you need to do right now is think about it. Remember, be realistic. If it helps, write down your goals on a piece of paper.

2. Make a plan

Once you know what you want to do, it’s time to come up with a strategy. If your goal is to walk more in the morning, wake up a bit earlier so you have the time. Think of ways to keep yourself motivated. And if you slip up one day, just get right back at it the next day. Get some great fitness tips with the “How Active Are You?” guide.

3. Keep at it

Changing old ways of doing things doesn’t happen overnight. The trick is to stick with your plan. Take one step forward and see how you do. Before you know it, you’ll have reached your goal. Keep in mind, every day is a new chance to make a fresh start. Ask for support from family, friends, and your health care team.
